What is a Wi-Fi site survey?

Depending on your demands, we provide several Wi-Fi site surveys. Each assessment will include a diagnosis of any network problems you may be experiencing as well as an examination and testing of your current infrastructure to determine its suitability and scalability for your company’s requirements.

We’ll keep this in mind as we analyse your current coverage (if any) and evaluate your essential services, programmes, and applications to ensure they function without any problems.

Benefits of a site survey

You'll receive a bespoke network

Our skilled experts will conduct a wireless survey or network analysis to find any potential interference sources or venue-specific obstructions that could be damaging your Wi-Fi coverage. We’ll examine every element of your network design and current internet connection at your location. A thorough report outlining any work necessary to maximise your network coverage will be sent to you.

Great coverage guaranteed

Our engineers will design your network to address any problems, whether they relate to high network congestion, building materials, or nearby disturbances that influence your signal levels. Our special performance guarantee is in place to support all our work.

Optimising your existing network

To assist you in optimising your network, our professionals will provide equipment advice. We have extensive expertise in setting up and managing high-performing networks. We can offer advice on a wide range of equipment manufacturers, including Extreme Networks, Ruckus, Mist, Cambium, HPE Aruba, Cisco, Cisco Meraki, and Cisco. We provide advice on network topology and prioritisation, as well as experience working with latency-sensitive applications like VoIP and video.

Why Do You Need a Wi-Fi Site Survey?

Wi-Fi. We often take it for granted. It appears to be everywhere – in our homes, offices, favourite cafés, and even in open-air public spaces. Yes, not being able to check your Facebook page while sipping your latte isn’t a disaster; when your office’s Wi-Fi connectivity falls short, everything appears to come to a standstill.

Here’s why you need Wi-Fi coverage planning for your office:

  • The bigger the building, the more construction materials were required to build it. Concrete, brick, and metal all interfere with RF signals differently. Wireless survey businesses, such as Data Cable Installation, can map out and account for each of them.
  • Furniture might also disrupt the signal. Cubicles, conference rooms, and different dividers can all degrade Wi-Fi network speed.
  • Preparing for future technology trends: The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing how we think about connectivity. We do not merely connect devices to an AP (access point). We also link devices to one another.
  • In the absence of a Wi-Fi site survey, network administrators often place Aps at random. When the signal is weak, extra APs are then added. However, this causes interference and connection concerns. In the long run, this might cost you a lot of money and time.

Wi-Fi Site Survey FAQs

What equipment will be used on-site?

We could use handheld barcode scanners, VoWiFi handsets, laptops or tablets. However, to establish frequency ranges and whether standards (802.11a, b, g, n, and ac) are supported, we’ll need to know the brand and model of the devices that will use the wireless networks. We can assist you in identifying the devices you use if you don’t have this information.

How many of each kind of device do you use?

The Wi-Fi configuration will depend on how many devices are connected to your network. During the Wi-Fi site assessment, we’ll need to make an educated guess as to how many devices could be present in any region. We may choose the appropriate model of Access Points (APs) by using capacity planning.

What programmes do you employ?

We must determine whether the Wi-Fi network is being utilised for video, VoWiFi, email, online browsing, cloud storage, or RTLS during the wireless site survey (location tracking). QoS (Quality of Service) is necessary for specific traffic to function correctly.

What is a heat map site survey?

A WiFi heatmap is a two-dimensional map that uses colour to show a network connection’s speed in a certain location, such as a warehouse, office building, conference centre, or other areas.

The heatmap uses a traffic light-style colour spectrum to highlight places where WiFi is most effective. A green colour indicates a good connection in an area, while a red colour suggests a poorer connection.

Various issues can cause a sluggish wireless network, and WiFi heatmaps are one of the tools that our experts use as part of a more extensive wireless network health check (otherwise known as a WiFi survey).
