The Portuguese Embassy in London serves as the country’s diplomatic representation in the United Kingdom. It operates across two independent buildings on Belgrave Square in Belgravia, with an additional consulate located on Portland Place in Fitzrovia.
Originally established in Mayfair at 74 South Audley Street from 1747 to 1829, the embassy now occupies a stucco terrace building constructed by George Basevi in 1825. The property forms part of a cluster of Grade I listed buildings at 11-12 Belgrave Square.
The project’s primary objective was to provide reliable connectivity throughout the embassy’s large premises, including addressing dead zones and optimising the Wi-Fi network across a vast space of 19,045 sq. ft., featuring 20ft ceilings and a total property value exceeding £100m.
Given the building’s diplomatic and historic nature, working hours were restricted to periods when the ambassador and staff were not on-site. This required careful planning to avoid disruption and safeguard the property’s valuable antiques, which could be at risk during installation. Comprehensive risk assessments and protective protocols were established to ensure smooth execution.
Another major challenge involved designing a robust wired and wireless network for the property’s multiple functions, such as hosting events, banquets, and parties. The network needed to deliver exceptional performance without dropouts, delays, or interference.
Our team successfully installed a state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network, addressing all challenges with precision.
While VOIP telephone systems could not be implemented due to limitations within the building, we devised a robust setup that allowed embassy staff to work seamlessly from any area without signal concerns.
